Maintenance Volunteer –  Dolores/Mancos Ranger District

Each year volunteers assist thousands of visitors as they plan their visit to the San Juan National Forest.  Volunteers in this position are expected to provide a warm,  welcoming atmosphere and the highest level of customer service.  The volunteer assists visitors by providing accurate information in person and over the phone in support of the San Jan National Forest.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE:

Representing the San Juan National Forest and providing high quality to maintain recreation sites.  You will be required to work a minimum of 24 hours per week.

From May 5 –  October 31,  8am –  4:30 pm.  Work schedule is negotiated &  planned between other volunteers and Forest Service Supervisors.  Must have a valid driver’s license,  fully enclosed RV with sewer hookup,  and must be able to pass a federal background check.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Duties

·  Clean Restrooms

·  General maintenance of Dolores Ranger District Buildings.

·  Operating small engine equipment.

·  Mowing,  weeding,  of grounds.

·  Landscaping

·  Painting and staining.

·  Picking up garbage.

·  Sign installation.

·  Fence Repair.

·  Checking Gates.

·  Safety inspections.

Qualifications / Career Path

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Ability to communicate effectively.

·  Ability to display a positive attitude and professional demeanor.

·  Willingness to wear a Forest Service Volunteer uniform.

·  Knowledge of Forest Service regulations desired.

·  Ability to determine visitor needs and answer questions.

·  Ability to remain courteous and calm in hectic circumstances.

·  Ability to interact respectfully and effectively with a great diversity of people.

·  Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

·  Ability to practice safety in all aspects of the job.

·  Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.

·  Ability to pass a Federal Background Check.

The work locations encompass the entire Dolores Ranger District within the San Juan National Forest.  The town of Dolores Colorado is approximately 7 miles from McPhee Recreation Area where the RV space is located.  Dolores has fuel stations,  a small grocery store,  restaurants,  and a hardware store.  Traveling 8 miles south is the town of Cortez Colorado.  Cortez is a full-service community,  with a hospital,  3 grocery stores,  6 pharmacies,  restaurants,  and many other amenities.

RV Space full hook up (30-amp electrical service,  water &  sewer).
